This work emerges from three long time personal and social questions:
What is the role (and value) of Truth in art and in our culture?
What is the role of Entertainment in art and in our culture?
What is the role of my Art in my life and in my culture and where do these concepts fit in, or emanate from, in what I am trying to do?
Changes in photography since Photoshop have been much more then technical. Personal & moral issues arise in the advent of digital imaging, I have been constantly aware of these more frequently unasked questions. Is there a value or a necessity for reality (truth), what is its role? Are we meant to be entertaining...Why? Likely there is no definitive answer. My pursuit as an artist is to conger up definitive questions…
Kevin Monaghan has been a Fine Artist and a Commercial photographer for over forty years. He attended the Massachusetts College of Art inBoston. Kevin has taught photography at Brandeis University, Keene College, The University of Massachusetts-Boston andseveral adult education programs in the Boston and Valley area. Hereceived a Massachusetts Council of the Arts grant in the 1970s His work was subsequently published in the book The State of the Art the Art of the State
Kevin’s work had been shown at the Dayton Art Institute, Kohler Arts Center, Cornerstone Galleries, DTW in NYC and the Fogg Museum at Harvard University where his work is in their permanent collection. He is a commercial, freelance photographer doing corporate photography for scientific and high-tech Industries in Boston. His clients include Waters Corporation, Hewlet Packard, Thermo Electron, Millipore Corporation as well as Boston University, Brandeis University and Sloan Kettering Hospital In the past decades Kevin has dedicated most of his time to his fine art photography.
